New York Fashion Week (NYFW) of 2017 introduced some truly ‘to-die-for’ trends for the coming year. As seen on the runway from the brand, Alice + Olivia, extremely distressed jeans, flashy, sequined, matching ensembles, and wild patterns are making a comeback. Their designs in this show were very flamboyant and will certainly be the muse for many department store brands’ collections.
Jeremy Scott also exhibited some very flashy designs in his newest collection. Many of these designs featured depictions of religious figures, color clashing, and very playful patterns. His collections are always more edgy, but his NYFW creations truly pushed some boundaries. The designs were very unique and “out there” and will most likely remain coveted and exclusive. Perhaps the most interesting part of this collection, aside from the striking outfits, was the universal makeup put on all models that gave the illusion of being doll-eyed.
Contrasting with Jeremy Scott’s collection, Mara Hoffman’s collection had a very minimalistic approach. She included solid color outfits, denim material, and outfits that mixed solid bases with patterns. These choices offer a very wearable collection for the everyday person. The attired can be both trendy and comfortable, which is usually the case with Mara Hoffman’s collections. Additionally, her collections typically inspire many department store brands, and it is evident that this collection will not be any different.
Overall, all designers from New York Fashion Week brought something new to the table. From the all of the shows, it seems a very clean, basic, makeup look including foundation, mascara, and a statement lip will make an appearance this year as most designers showcased this makeup look. Fashion wise, many fringed dresses, monochromatic looks, intricate patterns, and very distressed jeans will be making a debut, not just in stores everywhere in the upcoming months, but even in the halls of Watchung Hills.
