Spirits were high at the Senior GLC Volleyball Tournament hosted on Thursday, October 17, at Watchung Hills in the gymnasium. The players of the tournament were strictly seniors and teachers, who formed individual teams consisting of six players each. The tournament had a total of seventeen teams in attendance.

Teams were randomly split up into brackets, and as the tournament progressed, the top two winning teams emerged and competed in the final. The first place team, which was comprised of several seniors from the Women’s Varsity Volleyball team, won a five dollar gift card to Dunkin Donuts.

The money raised would be used for the seniors’ Project Graduation, an event following graduation where the entire senior class is invited to attend.

Senior GLC President Jordon Reynolds explained that the GLC organized the gross profits into different segments: “Teams were charged a $15 fee to enter the tournament, and a $20 late fee signup. Spectator tickets were also sold at $3. Finally, drinks and snacks were sold at the door for various prices, which was also a huge hit.”

The event was a huge success, as evidenced by the spectator and participant turnout, as well as the overall profit. According to Reynolds, “the tournament raised a little over 350 dollars.”

According to an attending student, the tournament “was fun, and it was nice to just play volleyball with other students.” Students claimed that this was the best turnout for the volleyball tournament in years.

Another student echoed this sentiment, describing the tournament as “very competitive and full of spirit.” This was evident in the fact that students and teachers showed no mercy in the games – it was clear they were playing to win.
